Karera Wildlife Sanctuary UPSC

  • Karera Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, India.
  • In 1981, the Karera Wildlife Sanctuary was established by the Government of Madhya Pradesh to protect and conserve the local population of the Great Indian Bustard.
  • Area: It covers an area of approximately 202 square kilometers (about 78 square miles).
  • Lake: Dihaliya lake located within sanctuary borders.
  • Flora: Mixed Deciduous Forests, Acacia Trees, Riverine and Swamp Vegetation etc.
  • Fauna: Blackbuck, Great Indian Bustard, Black-bellied River Terns, Egrets, Indian Rock Python etc.
